track, crossovers, turnouts, and derails to allow intermodal trains to pull off the McKees Rocks mainline to serve the Pittsburgh Intermodal Terminal.Pittsburgh and Ohio Central Railroad — $420,000 to install 2,650 feet of track and one new turnout in the Scully Yard.Union Railroad Company — $3.4 million to repair and rehabilitate the East Pittsburgh Viaduct, including concrete repairs, structure drainage corrections, a 1,600-foot passing siding and adding a new walkway and handrails.Allegheny and Washington Counties:Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Co. — $1.2 million to install nearly 20 track miles of continuous welded rail on the railway’s Pittsburgh subdivision.Butler County:Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad Inc. — $3.6 million to improve the Butler Yard and shop tracks as well as yard tracks the company leases, as well as restoring a crossover connection and repairing eight bridge structures on its northern subdivision.Carbon County:Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad — $5 Highspire Railroad — $2 million to construct and rehabilitate 13,026 track feet and 22 turnouts serving the Durabond pipe plant, Chemtron weld plant, Arcelor-Mittal’s interchange loading area, and Governor Wolf Announces Funding to Support Environmental Cleanup and Revitalization Projects at 12 Abandoned Mine Sites Across the State Potts Run acid mine drainage treatment/stream restoration, Knox Township: A passive treatment system to lower acidity should remove this stream from the impaired waters list and restore it as a coldwater fishery, improving property values and outdoor recreation opportunities.Lackawanna County Environment, Press Release Harrisburg, PA – Today, Governor Tom Wolf announced the approval of $25 million in funding for environmental cleanup and revitalization projects at 12 abandoned mine land (AML) locations in fourteen municipalities across Pennsylvania.“These projects demonstrate my administration’s strong commitment to assisting Pennsylvania communities in overcoming the challenges of abandoned mine land,” Governor Wolf said. “While it protects public health and safety through environmental cleanup, the disbursement of this funding will also support the creation of thousands of jobs, create new residential and business opportunities, and revitalize communities and outdoor recreation spaces that attract people and improve quality of life. I’m thrilled that we could support these important projects.”The approved abandoned mine cleanup projects will help eliminate public health and safety hazards and improve stream, groundwater, and land quality. The local community and economic development projects include: a regional airport expansion, new business parks, a residential development, reuse of coal waste in electricity generation, and outdoor sports and recreation amenities, such as trails, ballfields, and fishing.“Mine reclamation is the exacting process of removing acid mine drainage from streams, neutralizing acidity in the soil; removing dangerous mine highwalls; stabilizing sinkholes; and addressing other hazards,” said Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Secretary Patrick McDonnell. “But ‘mine reclamation’ ultimately means a renewal of possibility for coal communities, and this can be a game-changer.”The DEP Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation solicited proposals and selected projects based on federal guidelines and project benefits. DEP also provides or assists with the technical expertise needed to restore land, water, and air quality at the abandoned mine sites. The new Black Creek Trail will be constructed from Weatherly Borough to Lehigh Gorge State Park, and opportunities for outdoor recreation and related local commerce will increase.Clearfield County April 06, 2018 Lackawanna College subsidence abatement, Scranton: Filling underground mine voids under a six-story building that’s part of the new Cornerstone Commons will enable use of the building for classrooms and other uses, leading to about 90 full- or part-time jobs as well as construction and indirect employment.Luzerne County TASA refuse piles/South Sandy Creek restoration, Irwin Township: About 200,000 tons of acid-forming coal refuse will be excavated and sent to Scrubgrass Generating Station for electricity generation, enabling the company to add new employees. Elimination of a major source of AMD to tributaries to South Sandy Creek and Williams Run will improve about 13 miles of stream and improve local groundwater quality. The reclaimed site is anticipated to be used for agricultural purposes. The Path of the Flood Trail will be extended to the Johnstown Flood Memorial, completing the trail. This will enhance the popular annual trail race; opportunities for educational tourism, hiking, biking, and kayaking; and related local commerce.Carbon County Donaldson Culm Bank Stream Restoration, Frailey Township: Coal waste will be removed along Good Spring Creek, currently designated as clogged stream land, and repurposed for local power generation. Nearly 18 acres of floodplain and wetlands will be created, reducing flooding, and the restored site will become an environmental park with trails.Porter Floodplain restoration, West Brunswick Township: Coal silt will be removed from 10 acres of clogged stream land, processed, and sold as fuel. Water quality in the Schuylkill River will be improved, and a missing section of the Schuylkill River Trail Network between the Auburn and Hamburg trail heads will be constructed, increasing opportunities for fishing, hiking, and other outdoor recreation and related local commerce.Venango County CAN DO North Park Drive Business Park, Hazle Township: Almost 130 acres of mine land will be regraded to pre-mining conditions to be developed into seven developable parcels in the CAN DO Industrial Park.Hollars Hill South AML site and Cranberry Creek Gateway Project, Hazle Township: About 150 acres of mine spoil, industrial/residential waste, and hazardous structures will be reclaimed for a community ballfield complex and to allow development of the planned residential, retail, and commercial development called Cranberry Creek Gateway.Earth Conservancy Bliss Bank 3 Business Park, Hanover and Newport Townships: Remediation of 55 acres of mined land, including 1,200 feet of dangerous mine highwalls, will allow the completion of the 220-acre Bliss Bank business park. With active recruitment of nationwide companies underway, about 1,000 full-time jobs are anticipated.Swoyersville refuse pile/community athletic complex, Swoyersville Borough: In the first phase of the Swoyersville culm bank reclamation, approximately 15 acres of the 55-acre coal refuse pile will be removed and remediated, with over 2 million cubic yards of refuse anticipated to be usable for electricity cogeneration facilities. Floodplain restoration will improve water quality in the Abrahams Creek Watershed and reduce flooding. Seven acres of the reclaimed property will be transferred to Swoyersville Borough for development of a new community athletic complex that will allow multiple teams to play, drawing more people to the borough.Schuylkill County Zelienople Municipal Airport expansion, Franklin Township: Over 3,400 feet of mine highwall and a 12-acre hillside obstruction will be removed. The runway will be extended, adding more flight options and about 25 new jobs.Cambria County
(Letter to the Sports Editor)… Who holds the Berbice Cricket Board shares in Guyana Cricket Inc.?DRUBAHADUR’S recent public announcement of his resignation as President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) emphasises the magnitude of the ongoing crisis in this failed cricket administration.The number of previous resignations has effectively reduced the illegal GCB Executive to a veritable one-man show. During his tenure Drubahadur seemed powerless, without authority, but was expected to act the part. On his first appearance within the cricket administration, he was appointed Asst Secretary at the illegally-held 2011 Elections of the GCB.In 2013 when elections were again due, the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) did not attend and the Demerara Cricket Board Executives/officials were all under injunction; yet by some unknown mechanism he was promoted to the prestigious office of President of the GCB.As a professional accountant but with limited knowledge and experience in cricket administration, Drubahadur had placed himself at a terrible disadvantage thereby making his duties more ceremonial than executive. After all, he who pays the piper calls the tune. It certainly is not good enough for Drubahadur to just resign without properly accounting for his six (6) years stewardship by saying that he cannot precisely recall when he resigned and that his record speaks for itself. What record?Now, the Guyana Cricket Board’s constitution clearly states that the President of the GCB is the first choice to represent Guyana on the Directorship of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). Chetram Singh during his twenty-odd years enjoyed that privilege as did Ramsey Ali in his brief sojourn.Yet during Drubahadur’s purported tenure, Anand Sanasie and Anand Kalludeen were the two persons questionably selected to serve on the WICB Executive Body. Kalludeen of course never played nor administered cricket at any level before this surprising appointment to the GCB Executive and more so as Guyana’s representative to the WICB.Also, since the 2011 elections were illegally held basically for want of a quorum and the 2013 elections for the same reason was illegal (due to the non-attendance of the Berbice Cricket Board and the Demerara Cricket Board) and there has been no elections held in 2015 or 2017 (since the Cricket Administration Act 2014) Drubahadur must now tell the public:1. How, where, when and who voted for his election to the presidency of the GCB.2. Definitively when he resigned from the GCB and the real reason for so doing, especially since he seems so vague on this issue approximately two (2) months after it was supposed to have occurred.3. In clear terms what were his major contributions (lows and highs) during his term of office.4. What legal mechanism was utilised to transfer all the assets (conservatively valued at $2.5 billion) to the privately-owned group named Cricket Guyana Inc. Company No 6850, formerly named D.E.B Essentials Organisation Inc. Also, Drubahadur must explain who is holding the Berbice Cricket Board’s shares since the incorporation document shows that shares for the Essequibo Cricket Board are held in the name of Fizul Bacchus and for the Demerara Board in the name of Raj Singh.5. By what legal authority were Mr Chetram Singh and Mr Lionel Jaikarran empowered to effect such a transfer of the GCB assets to a private body.It is indeed sad, even sinful for our cricket to be relegated to this pitiful state, more so with the Essequibo Board president Fizul Bacchus, now the president of the GCB, things could get only worse. Just look at the state of Essequibo cricket! When one considers that the Essequibo Cricket Board has been the mainstay, the backbone of all the illegalities that have kept the so-called GCB in office and the state of their cricket is in shatters, and virtual disarray, there must be some sinister reason why that Board is still supporting the GCB.The fact that the current GCB is illegal and in violation of the Cricket Administration Act (which both Drubahadur and the erstwhile GCB Secretary claim they support) is extremely subversive to the Berbice Cricket Board, the Georgetown Cricket Association and the East Coast Cricket Board.he GCB has deliberately ostracised the Upper Demerara Cricket Association where immense talent exists. One is therefore left to ponder as to the delay by our Government in resolving the cricket crisis and bringing order, transparency and accountability as provided for in the Guyana Cricket Administration ActMr President, Mr Attorney General, Minister of Sport, the entire Government, the Opposition, the media and the public in general must act now; act decisively to resolve the illegality that prevails. It is our collective responsibility to our great national game failing which things will get only worse.
